World Championships Men's 200m: Bolt wins with a world-leading time

Usain Bolt demonstrated once again that he is virtually unbeatable in the 200-meter sprint. The Jamaican’s Moscow title means that he became the first male athlete to win the event three times (the great Michael Johnson only managed to win it twice).

Bolt (PB: 19.19s and SB: 19.66s) made a strong start and it no point did he seem challenged for the title. His fellow countryman Warren Weir (PB and SB: 19.79) added to the Jamaican joy by claiming the silver. Weir’s second position was also all but secure 150 meters into the race.

The real hero of the night, however, is neither of those too, even if Bolt’s winning time of 19.66s is the world-leading for the season. The American Curtis Mitchell (PB and SB: 19.97) came out of nowhere to win the bronze medal. Mitchell went into the turn seventh and somehow managed to recover with a brilliant final sprint.

Bolt’s win at the 200m event means that he is now the winner of 7 World Championships gold medals (2 in the 100m, 3 in the 200m and 2 in the 4x100m relay). Tomorrow, the great Jamaican will get a chance to win his eight gold medal and equal the record of Carl Lewis, when the 4x100m men’s relays line up for the final race of the 2013 World Championships in Athletics.
